![]() ![]() ![]() John enjoyed fishing Lake Beltrami, and throughout Canada mushroom hunting in the woods surrounding his farm and travel with his family. Philip's Catholic Church in Bemidji and in his later years a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Family, faith, and church were very important to John. They returned to Bemidji after their marriage and built a home together on Lake Beltrami. John married his beloved wife, Charlotte Elaine Rich on Jin Marble, MN. On the occasion of his retirement in 2000, John was named Director Emeritus of Financial Aid having served the University faithfully for 34 years. He served as president of the Minnesota Financial Aid Association, and was honored to receive the Bemidji State University award for outstanding employee in 1993. He was devoted to securing funding for Native American students and testified at State and Federal hearings in support of financial aid issues. A strong believer in the value of education, John dedicated his life to bringing scholarship money to Bemidji State, making college education possible for thousands. In 1966 John began a long and fulfilling career as Assistant Director, and then Director of Financial Aid at Bemidji State University. John's professional life began as a high school social studies teacher in Cass Lake, MN from 1965-1966. He was drafted into the army in 1961 and served at the United States Army Electronic Proving Ground in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, forging friendships that would last a lifetime. in Guidance and Counseling from Bemidji State University. in Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth and a M.S. in Business Administration from Bemidji State University a B.S. After attending two years of Junior College, he received a B.A. His early years were formed by his work in the Mesabi Chief Mine and the encouragement of the miners to pursue higher education. He was raised and educated in Nashwauk along with his identical twin brother James, and older sister Patricia. John was born Augin Nashwauk, MN the son of John and Maria Schullo. Interment will follow in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery. Philip's Catholic Church in Bemidji with Rev. John Patrick Schullo, 78 of Bemidji, MN died peacefully on Sunday, February 12th, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.Ī Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, at 11:00 a.m. ![]()
